Top 5 Easiest to Care for Plants

Life as Mama suggests Snake Plants as an easy-care plant. "Snake plants are among the easiest of plants to take care of. They can survive neglected for weeks, which is excellent for those who don't have a green thumb. All you have to do is place the plant in indirect sunlight and water it every few weeks. You certainly do not need to water these plants often; their soil should dry out before watering them again.

How easy is it to care for the Fiddle Leaf Fig? "These plants prefer lots of light, so place them near a bright window that lets in a lot of light. It's also a good idea to rotate the plant every few months to expose each part of it to the light. As far as watering goes, you'll want to water the plant when the soil gets dry. When you do water, make sure you give it enough water to drain out of the saucer. Do not let it sit by any drafty windows or doors. These plants prefer a more stable, warm environment, so they do best in a warmer part of the home. Finally, be sure to wipe the leaves often of dust so as not to block any sunlight from being absorbed."

Do you notice that one secret to caring for indoor plants is that they have different light needs? A girlfriend of mine couldn't sit in the sun for hours, or she would look like a lobster. In contrast, I could be around the water all day and rarely burn. Plants also need water every few weeks or only when their soil is dry. The biggest killer is overwatering.

When it comes to Rubber Plants, you'll want to buy a younger plant that can grow and mature in your home as it gets used to its environment. Purchasing one already mature may not do well in your home because of your different environment. Rubber plants need bright light, but it needs to be indirect and not too warm. It's best to put it near a window with sheers or blinds that filter some of the light that comes through. These plants also need a good balance of water. Overwatering will cause their leaves to turn brown and yellow and fall off. Water it until you see water come out of the bottom, then stop. Do not let the plant sit in this water at the bottom either, because it will cause root rot.

Ponytail Palm and Spider Plants are two of the easiest to Care for Plants. Of course, you'll want to keep the soil reasonably dry when watering Ponytail Palms. On the other hand, Spider plants only need to be watered once the earth begins to dry out. Since the Ponytail Palm is so easy to care for, it has quickly become of the most popular house plants.
